What type of piano do you want to buy?

Decide whether you want an acoustic piano or a digital piano. Acoustic pianos, including grand pianos and upright pianos, are known for their rich tone and sensitivity. Digital pianos offer more versatility, require less maintenance, and are often more budget-friendly.

What should you pay attention to when purchasing a piano?

When buying a piano, there are several important factors to consider to ensure that you choose an instrument that suits your needs and preferences. Here are some essentials:

How much space do you have for your piano?

When buying a grand piano, consider the space it will be in. A grand piano requires more floor space than an upright or digital piano. The acoustics of the room can also affect the sound of the piano. Typically, a taller piano or longer grand piano will also have a fuller sound and more volume.

Buying a piano based on sound quality

If you are going to buy a piano, the sound is probably one of the most important aspects. Play on different pianos to listen to the tone, resonance and the balance between bass and treble. What sounds good is very subjective, so trust your own ear and taste. Distinguish warm sound/bright tone: also important depending on the genre of music you want to play.

Touch and mechanism of the piano

The feel of the keys is crucial. A good piano has a responsive action that can reflect the nuances of your playing. With digital pianos, the quality of the weighted keys can vary greatly.

The condition of the piano you are going to buy

When purchasing a used acoustic piano, it is important to check its condition. Look at the wear on the hammers, strings, and soundboard. Consider bringing in a professional piano technician for an expert evaluation.

What brand and model of piano do you want to buy?

Some brands have a better reputation for durability and quality. Research brands and read reviews to see which pianos come highly recommended.

Budget

Determine the budget of the piano you are going to buy. Acoustic pianos can be a significant investment, while digital pianos offer a wider range of price points. Although we have acoustic pianos in all price ranges. Also consider future maintenance costs.

Warranty and services

Look at the warranty and which services are included with the purchase, such as delivery, tuning and maintenance. At Bol Piano's you are assured of excellent service and warranty on the purchased piano.

How much does a piano cost?

The cost of a piano depends entirely on the type and the brand piano that you want to buy. But below we give you an idea of the different possibilities.

The prices for purchasing an acoustic piano vary between €500 for a piano from the warehouse collection and €50.000 for a top-class German concert instrument.
New pianos starting in price from € 3.990, - and second hand instruments from our showrooms are often available from € 1.500.

Buying a new piano

A new piano will last a lifetime and the 10 year warranty that comes with new (and reconditioned) instruments are offered are very interesting for buyers who want to continue to develop their piano playing for a long time.

Buying a second-hand piano

Buying a second-hand piano is attractive because of the competitive pricing. But also from the perspective of sustainability it is a very suitable option to start with as a beginner piano player.

A piano bench can be purchased separately for €100 (normally €150) in combination with an instrument.

Benches are available in different colours and models (black, white, brown, high-gloss, matt), with imitation leather or velvet seats.

New pianos have a 10-year warranty and second-hand pianos have a 3 or 5-year warranty. Refurbished instruments such as Yamaha second-hand pianos also have a 10-year warranty.

What brands of pianos are there?

Buying a piano also means making a choice for a certain merk and a specific model of piano.

Popular brands include: Yamaha , Steinway, C. Bechstein, W. Hoffmann, Carpenter, Bosendorfer, Perzina, ribs, Kawai, Mold, Grotrian Steinweg and Sauter. In general, Asian brands a somewhat cooler, clear sound and German brands a warm sound.

Depending on the brand, the touch of a piano can vary: Yamaha pianos, for example, play very lightly, which often makes them a nice instrument for people who were used to playing digital pianos and are switching to acoustic.

With a heavier touch, the player often develops a good technique in which hard/soft playing can be applied in good gradations, something that is often found with German brands.

Which model do you choose?

A high piano gives a fuller sound with more volume, suitable for large rooms and a low piano is very suitable for smaller spaces. The lowest models are about 1 meter high and the large concert models are about 130 cm or higher.

An advantage of a low model is that there is less noise pollution for neighbours or housemates, the advantage of a higher model is of course the greater dynamic range.
