The making of pianos began in Estonia as early as the end of the 18th century. At the beginning of the 20th century there were as many as 20 piano makers and the most notable was the manufacturer Ernst Hiis whose hand-built piano was the prototype for the Estonia piano.

The Instrument

The instruments have received several awards for their excellent technique and have been prominently represented on the numerous concert stages of the East. More than 7500 concert instruments have been made and pianists such as Sviatoslav Richter, Dmitry Shostakovich, Emil Gilels and Claudio Aurrau have performed on these magnificent instruments.

Since Estonia regained its independence in 1991, the current owner Indrek Laul has returned Estonia to the high standards of yesteryear.
Since 2001, Dr. Laul's family consisting of pianist Reet Laul and conductor Venno Laul, has brought the Estonia grand pianos to a level where appearance and durability fulfill the desire of every owner/pianist. The tone, touch and control are unmatched.
